The Department of Oncology at Niagara Health seeks a highly motivated physician with a passion for providing the highest quality care to join the Department as a full-time Hospitalist. The selected candidate would have a proven track record of innovation and for providing exemplary patient care.
The practice would consist of MRP responsibilities from Monday to Friday for patients admitted under the Oncology Service for management of disease or treatment related issues, and includes consultation from the Emergency Department or Outpatient Oncology Clinics as directed by Medical, Hematologic or Radiation Oncologists to facilitate hospital admission, and promote safe and timely discharges.
Participation in the Walker Family Cancer Centre Urgent Care Clinic would be included to provide consultation to facilitate work-up of patients without an established cancer diagnosis and/or who require urgent management of acute issues, follow-up of patients who have completed their treatments, and provision of medical procedures including paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy or others as required.
All of the above activities would be supported by and coordinated with those of an experienced Oncology Hospitalist, 4 Nurse Practitioners, and the resources of a growing Cancer Centre and a modern, full-service hospital. Your colleagues would also include 13 Medical and Hematologic Oncologists, 5 Radiation Oncologists, 3 Benign Hematologists, and 3 Palliative Care Physicians.
On-call duties overnight and on weekends would be shared with the current Oncology Hospitalist, as well as Medical Oncologists and Hematologic Oncologists.
Academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University will be highly encouraged. Along with expected shared clinical service duties, opportunities exist for teaching of both medical students and residents.
