OncologyEducation is proud to present the 20thCanadian Melanoma Conference. This three-day event is Canada’s flagship meeting on the research and treatment of melanoma. It brings together medical oncologists, surgeons, dermatologists, radiotherapists, pathologists, immunologists, molecular biologists and industry partners to review the latest research and explore new therapies in a digital setting, and will take place online and in-person from February 26-28, 2026.
Learning Objectives
- Describe key clinical trial data from 2025 in the management of melanoma and understand the impact on Canadian practices.
- Understand the latest strategies in melanoma as they pertain to medical oncology, pathology, radiation, and surgery.
- Implement approaches that maximize patient standard of care in melanoma.
Event Co-Chairs

Conference Chair: Dr. Vanessa Bernstein
Medical Oncologist, BC Cancer Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, University of British Columbia
Dr. Vanessa Bernstein is a medical oncologist at the British Columbia Cancer Agency- Vancouver Island Cancer Centre specializing in specializing in breast and skin cancers. Dr. Bernstein received her BA from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. She completed her MD, Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology training at the University of British Columbia. She has a Master’s of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Bernstein has been an investigator for many phase I, II and III clinical trials. She chaired the BC Cancer Breast Cancer Systemic Policy Group from 2013-2015 and has been the chair of the BC Cancer Skin Tumor group since 2017. She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Conference Chair: Dr. Teresa Petrella
Medical Oncologist, Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre; Associate Professor, University of Toronto
Teresa Petrella is a Medical Oncologist at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Petrella has a BSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Western Ontario and completed her MD from Queen’s University. Her Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology training was at McMaster University. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Melanoma and Breast cancer at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre along with a Masters in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. Dr. Petrella joined the staff at OCC in 2002 and became the Head of the Melanoma Site Group. She is also the Chair of the Provincial Guidelines Melanoma Disease Site Group, Program in Evidence Based Care, that sets standards and guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and skin cancer in the province. She is currently the Director of the Clinical Trials Program at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and she Co-Chairs the Canadian Melanoma Conference.
A key focus of Dr. Petrella’s research is investigating novel immunotherapies and targeted therapies for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. She is actively involved in the design and implementation of clinical trials for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Abstract Submission Guidelines & Requirements
Residents, Students and fellows are invited to submit an abstract of their research between September 22 and November 22, 2024. All selected poster presenters (Lead Author) will have their conference registration fee waived. The reviewing committee will select 5 abstracts from those submitted for oral presentation; the latter is scheduled for in-person poster presentation at the Canadian Melanoma Conference in Vancouver, BC. One author for each of the 5 selected abstracts will receive a $3,000 CAD honorarium to assist with accommodations and travel to and from the conference.
