Event Landscape
The Canadian Cardiac Oncology Network Symposium will feature the latest research and clinical guidelines in the multidisciplinary field of cardiac oncology. It’s aimed at understanding cardiac complications of oncology treatments, and has gained a growing interest from a number of healthcare providers including oncologists, cardiologists, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and basic scientists. This accredited event will review the most recent literature and research on prevention, treatment and monitoring strategies in cardio-oncology.

- Gain a better understanding of cardiac complications of oncology treatments,
- Develop early detection and intervention strategies to optimize cardiac health, and;
- Optimize patient outcomes by collaborating with allied healthcare professionals.
Event Co-Chairs

Dr. Dinesh Thavendiranathan
MD, SM
Dr. Dinesh Thavendiranathan is a cardiologist at the Toronto General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His research involves the use of cardiac imaging (cardiac MRI, CT, and echocardiography) for the diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease in patients with cancer. His work is funded through CIHR, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Cancer Society. He is the Director of the Ted Rogers Program in Cardiotoxicity Prevention and holds a Canada Research Chair in Cardio-oncology. He serves on the editorial board of several journals and is a Guest Editor in Chief for JACC: CardioOncology and an Associate Editor for JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging.

Dr. Christine Brezden-Masley
MD, PhD, FRCPC
Christine Brezden-Masley, MD PhD FRCPC is a senior practicing Medical Oncologist and the Medical Director of the Cancer Program at Sinai Health System in Toronto, Canada. She is also the Director of the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre at Sinai Health and holds the Marvelle Koffler Chair in Breast Research. She obtained her PhD in Medical Biophysics at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and her Medical Degree from the University of Toronto. She is a Professor at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and an Associate Scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Toronto, Canada.
She treats both breast and gastrointestinal (colorectal and gastric cancers) malignancies, which are her major areas of research interest. Her main area of clinical research is cardiotoxicity from cancer therapy and is the Past-President of the Canadian Cardio-Oncology Network (2017-2022). She also serves on the International Cardio-Oncology Society (ICOS) annual summit steering committees and co-chaired the 2022
Global Cardio-Oncology Summit in Toronto. She co-chairs the Junior Mentoring Program JuMP that fosters mentorship/sponsorship of junior medical oncology faculty across Canada and serves on the executive of WinC (Women in Cancer/All in Cancer).
She is an advocate for patients and serves as a board member of ReThink Breast Cancer and MyGutFeeling and also serves on the scientific committee for the Colorectal Cancer Resource & Action Network.

Abstract Submission Guidelines & Requirements
Residents, Students and fellows are invited to submit an abstract of their research between September 22 and November 22, 2024. All selected poster presenters (Lead Author) will have their conference registration fee waived. The reviewing committee will select 5 abstracts from those submitted for oral presentation; the latter is scheduled for in-person poster presentation at the Canadian Melanoma Conference in Vancouver, BC. One author for each of the 5 selected abstracts will receive a $3,000 CAD honorarium to assist with accommodations and travel to and from the conference.
