Chaired by Dr. Scott Berry, Dr. Dorothy Lo, and Dr. Suneil Khanna, the Best of Oncology East Conference will showcase the most impactful clinical trials of 2025 across a range of tumour sites. The event will feature multidisciplinary sessions covering radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and supportive care, with expert faculty drawn from some of Eastern Canada’s leading oncologists.
Learning Objectives
- To discuss the pivotal oncology trials presented in the different disease sites
- To review the current standard of care for key malignancies
- To discuss the current controversies in the management of specific cancers
Event Co-Chairs

Dr. Scott Berry
BSc, MD, MHSc, FRCPC
Dr. Scott Berry is a medical oncologist and Chief and Medical Director of the Oncology Program at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. He is the interim regional vice-president for Cancer Care Ontario – Ontario Health’s Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program and an Adjunct Professor of Oncology at Queen’s University. Dr. Berry’s clinical specialty is gastrointestinal cancer. He is actively involved in clinical research and Co-Chair of the Gastrointestinal Disease Site Group of the Cancer Cancer Ontario Program in Evidence Based Care. Dr. Berry is a medical educator who has previously served as Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee for Medical Oncology. He is one of the co-founders of OncologyEducation.com. His other academic interest is the bioethical issues surrounding the care of people with cancer, in particular the ethical issues related to equitable access to cancer medications. He is a former member and ethics advisor to the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee and has served on the ASCO Ethics Committee.

Dr. Suneil Khanna
MD, FRCPC
Dr. Suneil Khanna is a Medical Oncologist at Unity Health in Toronto ON. He completed his medical school at the University of Alberta, residency training at the University of Calgary, and Fellowship Training at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He now works at Unity Health, specializing in GI, Lung, and GU malignancies and holds a number of educational roles within Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Dorothy Lo
MD, FRCP(C), MHSc
Dr. Dorothy Lo graduated from U of T Faculty of Medicine, McMaster Internal Medicine Programme, and medical oncology residency at U of T. During residency, Dr. Lo started studies in MHSc-Health Administration at U of T and graduated in 2008. She contributed to research projects and publications in cancer diagnostic assessment programs as part of residency training and as part of her internship at CCO.
As a staff medical oncologist at SJHC since 2007, Dr. Lo has served as the Head of the Division of Haematology & Oncology since 2013. At SJHC, she has been the site Principle investigator for five clinical trials.
In the oncology community, Dr. Lo has been active as the co-chair of education for COMET since 2008. Dr. Lo previously served as the Secretary and then VP of the Haematology & Oncology Section of the OMA. She has an academic affiliation with U of T as an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer. Since 2015, Dr. Lo has been the Chair of the Partnership Series which focuses on building Communities of Practice to improve access and collaboration in cancer care. Outcomes data from the Partnership Series was presented at CAMO 2017 and published as two separate articles in 2018.

Abstract Submission Guidelines & Requirements
Residents, Students and fellows are invited to submit an abstract of their research between September 22 and November 22, 2024. All selected poster presenters (Lead Author) will have their conference registration fee waived. The reviewing committee will select 5 abstracts from those submitted for oral presentation; the latter is scheduled for in-person poster presentation at the Canadian Melanoma Conference in Vancouver, BC. One author for each of the 5 selected abstracts will receive a $3,000 CAD honorarium to assist with accommodations and travel to and from the conference.
