This event will explore how leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) can transform cancer care with improved accuracy, efficiency, and personalized approaches, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes and advancements in the field.
Join chairs Dr. Scott Berry and Dr. Sharlene Gill at this in-person only unaccredited symposium during the 2024 CAMO Annual Scientific Meeting. Our expert panel of speakers will explore the emerging role and potential threats posed by AI, and explore its potential to impact diagnostics, clinical care, and research. The symposium will be held at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa, and will bring together a diverse panel to discuss the future of oncology in Canada.

Call for Abstracts:
Residents, Students and fellows are invited to submit an abstract of their research before Friday, November 24, 2023. A decision about acceptance of abstracts will be announced Friday, December 8, 2023. All selected poster presenters (Lead Author) will have their conference registration fee waived. The reviewing committee will select 5 abstracts from those submitted for oral presentation; the latter is scheduled for in-person poster presentation at the Canadian Melanoma Conference in Banff, AB.

Dr. Scott Berry
BSc, MD, MHSc, FRCPC
Dr. Scott Berry is a medical oncologist and Chief and Medical Director of the Oncology Program at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. He is the interim regional vice-president for Cancer Care Ontario – Ontario Health’s Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program and an Adjunct Professor of Oncology at Queen’s University. Dr. Berry’s clinical specialty is gastrointestinal cancer. He is actively involved in clinical research and Co-Chair of the Gastrointestinal Disease Site Group of the Cancer Cancer Ontario Program in Evidence Based Care. Dr. Berry is a medical educator who has previously served as Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee for Medical Oncology. He is one of the co-founders of OncologyEducation.com. His other academic interest is the bioethical issues surrounding the care of people with cancer, in particular the ethical issues related to equitable access to cancer medications. He is a former member and ethics advisor to the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee and has served on the ASCO Ethics Committee.
Dr. Sharlene Gill
MD, MPH, MBA, FACP, FRCP(C), FASCO
Dr. Gill is a Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and a medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies at BC Cancer – Vancouver. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy and an MD from the University of British Columbia in 1996 followed by residencies in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Gill subsequently completed a fellowship in Gl Oncology at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) and a Master’s of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 2017, she completed an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina. She is actively engaged in education and research, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters to her credit. Dr. Gill currently serves as the Chair of the Canadian Clinical Trials Group (CCTG) GI Disease Site Committee, and is President-Elect for the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists.
