Job Description

Locum medical oncology position

The Juravinski Cancer Centre at Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a full-time locum Medical Oncologist to work within the Division of Medical Oncology at the Juravinski Cancer Centre. The position is for the period of July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. This position is eligible for funding through the Provincial Oncology Alternate Payment Plan.

The Juravinski Cancer Centre is the Regional Cancer Centre for the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN. It is a large academic cancer centre located adjacent to the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, in Hamilton Ontario. There were approximately 4,100 new systemic therapy consultations seen during the last year and close to 130,000 total visits over the year (including treatment visits) for the systemic therapy program. The program treats all major disease sites and is a tertiary referral centre for sarcoma, CNS tumors, gynecological oncology and bone marrow transplantation. The successful applicant will work within a number of tumor site groups, including (but not necessarily limited to) GI and sarcoma. It is anticipated that the applicant will provide service for six half-day clinics per week. Occasional coverage of partner sites such as Burlington and/or Brantford may also be possible. Participation in relevant disease site multidisciplinary activities is required. Candidates will participate in the medical oncology on call roster (average 2 days per month) and the ward attending service for the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre (one week every 3 to 4 months). A hospitalist program as MRP exists for the daily management of most oncology inpatients.

The Juravinski Cancer Centre has a very active clinical trials program across the spectrum of oncological disease from phase I through phase III clinical trials. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to participate and enrol patients in the clinical trials program. Multiple opportunities exist for clinical and Health Services Research. Opportunities for involvement in the Medical Oncology Residency Training Program exist for interested individuals.

Candidates will need to possess the following:

• A certificate of registration for a valid license to practice in the province of Ontario issued by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• A FRCP in Internal Medicine with subspecialty training in Medical Oncology, or equivalent qualifications
• Membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association, or equivalent
• Additional Fellowship training would be advantageous but is not a prerequisite
