Job Description

GENERAL PRACTITIONER in ONCOLOGY, OUTPATIENTS (LOCUM)
The Grand River Regional Cancer Centre/Waterloo Wellington (GRRCC) is currently recruiting for a hospitalist/family physician/internist to work in the chemotherapy suite at Grand River Hospital. This position is effective mid-June 2025.
The successful candidate duties will include coverage of the outpatient chemotherapy suite at the Grand River Regional Cancer Center 8 am to 5 pm daily, organized in 1 week blocks (currently on a 3 week on, 1 week off schedule). This coverage will consist of evaluating patients experiencing issues while they undergo active chemotherapy. These patients are being treated for both solid tumor and hematologic malignancies. Issues may include, but are not limited to, infusion reaction management, addressing new symptoms that have arisen since their last clinic appointments, and management of abnormal labs that are drawn on the day of procedures.
Medical and hematologic oncology staff are available on site to provide backup and advice, and will help successful candidates acclimatize to this role.
Opportunities to work on the adjacent inpatient oncology unit and separate paid overnight home calls are available as well. Our cancer center is rapidly growing and there will likely be more opportunities to work in a permanent position when the locum is finished.
Remuneration is highly competitive.
Waterloo Wellington is a rapidly growing community that has grown along the banks of the Grand River. The region is often referred to as “Silicon Valley North” with wonderful schools, sports amenities, and cultural events.
Certification in Family Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or certification in internal medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and eligibility for independent licensure in the Province of Ontario are required. The successful applicant must also obtain and maintain privileges at Grand River Hospital.
