Job Description

The Department of Oncology at Niagara Health seeks a highly motivated physician with a passion
for providing the highest quality care to join the Department as a full-time Hospitalist. The
selected candidate would have a proven track record of innovation and for providing exemplary
patient care.

The practice would consist of MRP responsibilities from Monday to Friday for patients admitted
under the Medical Oncology Service for diagnosis and management of disease or treatment
related issues, and includes consultation from the Emergency Department or Outpatient Oncology
Clinics as directed by Medical, Hematologic or Radiation Oncologists to facilitate hospital admission
as MRP, and promote safe and timely discharges.

Participation in the Walker Family Cancer Centre urgent care clinic would be included to provide
consultation to facilitate work-up of patients without an established cancer diagnosis and/or who
require urgent management of acute issues, follow-up of patients who have completed their
treatments, and provision of medical procedures including paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar
puncture, bone marrow biopsy or others as required.

On-call duties overnight and on weekends would be shared with the Medical Oncologists and
Hematologic Oncologists, and with an existing Oncology Hospitalist. The above activities would be
supported by and coordinated with those of the existing Oncology Hospitalist, three experienced
Nurse Practitioners, and the resources of a growing Cancer Centre and a modern, full-service
hospital.

Academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University will be highly
encouraged. Along with expected shared clinical service duties, opportunities would exist for
teaching of both medical students and residents.

The Practice:

• Fee for Service
• Average 12-20 inpatients
• 1 to 3 half-day clinics weekly
• Virtual consultation with partner sites to support patient care
• Support of undiagnosed malignant patients
• No overhead expenses
• No general medicine call responsibilities

Academic Affiliations:
Strong academic partnerships are a priority for Niagara Health as the
organization builds robust relationships with McMaster University Michael
De Groote School of Medicine and its regional campus in Niagara, as well
as Brock University and Niagara College. We are interested in physicians
who will pursue university academic appointment and participate in
academic and research activities, and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications
Required:
• Independent license or eligible for independent license with the
College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Eligible to work in Canada without restrictions
• Experience in providing care to inpatients with complex acute and
chronic health conditions
• FRCPC in Internal Medicine or CCFP in Family Medicine
