Arielle Elkrief
MD, FRCPC
Dr. Arielle Elkrief MD, FRCPC is a clinician-scientist FRSQ J1 (ranked #1), Associate Professor in the Department of Oncology at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), and Co-Director of the CHUM Microbiome Centre. She was recruited to the CRCHUM in 2023 and directs a translational oncology lab focused on developing and advancing novel microbiome-based therapeutics in oncology . She leads microbiome-centered clinical trials studying microbiome interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), prebiotics, and diet in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. In addition, she contributed to establishing the negative impact of antibiotics on immunotherapy activity in patients with cancer. Her computational biology team uses integrated approaches in metagenomics and culturomics to understand the mechanism driving microbiome interventions in oncology.
She was recently awarded the American Society of Clinical Oncology Young Investigator Award and the Society of Immunotherapy of Cancer-Melanoma Research Alliance Women in Melanoma Award. She has published over 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Annals of Oncology and Nature Reviews Drug Discovery.

Teresa Petrella
MD, MSc, FRCPC
Teresa Petrella is a Medical Oncologist at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Petrella has a BSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Western Ontario and completed her MD from Queen’s University. Her Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology training was at McMaster University. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Melanoma and Breast cancer at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre along with a Masters in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. Dr. Petrella joined the staff at OCC in 2002 and became the Head of the Melanoma Site Group. She is also the Chair of the Provincial Guidelines Melanoma Disease Site Group, Program in Evidence Based Care, that sets standards and guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and skin cancer in the province. She is currently the Director of the Clinical Trials Program at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and she Co-Chairs the Canadian Melanoma Conference.
A key focus of Dr. Petrella’s research is investigating novel immunotherapies and targeted therapies for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. She is actively involved in the design and implementation of clinical trials for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
