Chaired by Dr. Sébastien Hotte and Dr. Elena Elimova, the Best of ASCO® GU & GI Cancers Conference 2026 will deliver a curated overview of the most impactful data and clinical insights from the ASCO® Genitourinary and Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposia. Designed for medical oncologists and multidisciplinary cancer care professionals, this conference will highlight the latest advancements in treatment and explore evidence-based, solution-oriented approaches to enhance patient care in the Canadian context. Featuring expert-led sessions across major disease sites, the agenda will showcase distinguished faculty comprising some of Canada’s foremost oncology leaders.

Learning Objectives

  1. Analyze pivotal clinical trials and research updates presented across genitourinary and gastrointestinal cancer disease sites.
  2. Review current standards of care for key malignancies, including emerging therapies and evolving treatment strategies.
  3. Evaluate ongoing controversies and challenges in the management of GU and GI cancers to inform evidence-based clinical decision-making.

Dr. Sebastien Hotte
MD, MSc (HRM), FRCPC

Medical Oncologist, Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton, Ontario Professor and Head, Division of Medical Oncology Department of Oncology, McMaster University Co-Chair, GU DSG CCO-PEBC

Dr. Hotte is currently a Professor in the Department of Oncology of McMaster University and is a staff oncologist and the Clinical and Academic Head of the Division of Medical Oncology at the Juravinski Cancer Centre. He is also a Regional Lead for Systemic Therapy, Cancer Care Ontario. His main research interests are in Developmental Therapeutics, especially pertaining to genito-urinary (GU) cancers and especially prostate cancer, with clinical interests in GU malignancies. He is the Chair of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) GU disease site group and the co-Chair of the Program for Evidence-Based Care GU group. He is the principle or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and original abstracts but first and foremost he is a husband and the proud father of two exceptional children.

Dr. Elena Elimova

MD, MSc, FRCPC

Dr. Elena Elimova is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Elimova is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. After completing her undergraduate studies and Masters of Science in Biochemistry at Queen’s University, she earned her medical degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Ottawa School of Medicine and a clinical fellowship in medical oncology at University of Toronto, Canada and subsequently a GI Medical Oncology Fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center where she also worked as a staff physician. The main focus of Elena’s research is to improve the outcomes of patients with gastroesophageal malignancies. She has concentrated on database research, translational research and the development of clinical trials. Internationally she is a member of the National Cancer Institute Esophagogastric steering task force.

Abstract Submission Guidelines & Requirements

Residents, Students and fellows are invited to submit an abstract of their research between September 22 and November 22, 2024. All selected poster presenters (Lead Author) will have their conference registration fee waived. The reviewing committee will select 5 abstracts from those submitted for oral presentation; the latter is scheduled for in-person poster presentation at the Canadian Melanoma Conference in Vancouver, BC. One author for each of the 5 selected abstracts will receive a $3,000 CAD honorarium to assist with accommodations and travel to and from the conference.
