Dr. Scott Berry and Dr. Desirée Hao
Mike Lovas has a background in biomedical engineering, product design, and tech entrepreneurship. He leads the design team that focuses on healthcare product and service design. Mike leads projects ranging from the creation of health apps for patients and providers to new services and spaces in hospitals. Mike is also an instructor at OCAD University’s Design for Health Masters program and University of Toronto’s Masters in Health Informatics program. Mike is passionate about creating a healthcare system that seamlessly cares for and supports patients throughout their entire experience, while at the same time supporting clinicians to have meaningful and effortless interactions with systems to manage care. Combining technology, new models of care, and intentional service design, his goal is to elevate the experiences for everyone involved in care—patients, families, and providers.
Dr. Monika Krzyzanowska is a practising medical oncologist and a health services researcher at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. The overarching goal of her research program is to improve the quality of care received by cancer patients. Her studies have had an impact at both the hospital and population levels. Dr. Krzyzanowska obtained her medical degree and clinical training at the University of Toronto and completed a research fellowship at the Centre for Outcomes and Policy Research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. In addition to her clinical and research work, she holds leadership positions related to quality of cancer care at the local, provincial and international levels.
Dr. Robert Bell served as Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care from 2014 to 2018. Prior, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of University Health Network. He was previously the Chief Operating Officer at Princess Margaret Hospital and Chair of Cancer Care Ontario’s Clinical Council and the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario. Dr. Bell received his Doctor of Medicine from McGill University, a Master of Science from the University of Toronto and achieved his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1983. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Surgeons and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. As an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, health system executive, clinician-scientist, and educator, Dr. Bell has more than 40 years of health care experience.
Sachin Aggarwal is the chief executive officer of Think Research which builds knowledge-based tools for clinicians. Prior to joining Think Research, he served as the deputy chief of staff for the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, national operations director for Michael Ignatieff’s leadership campaign, and acting as campaign manager for Toronto mayoralty candidate Rocco Rossi. Mr. Aggarwal was chosen as one of the recipients of the 2017 Canada’s Top 40 under 40 Award. He sits on the Board of the Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI) and has served on the Board of Directors for numerous community outreach programs, including Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services and the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation.
Dr. Scott Berry is a medical oncologist and Professor and Department Head in the Queen's University Department of Oncology. He is the Cancer Program Medical Director at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. He is an active participant in clinical research in GI cancer. He is the Co-Chair of the GI Disease Site Group of the CCO Program in Evidence Based Care. Dr. Berry loves teaching, has won several teaching awards and is a past Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee for Medical Oncology. His other academic interest is the bioethical issues surrounding the care of people with cancer, in particular the ethical issues surrounding funding new and expensive cancer medications. Dr. Berry has a Master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Desirée Hao completed her MD at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She did her Internal Medicine residency in Calgary, her Medical Oncology training at the University of Ottawa, and a Clinical Research Fellowship in cancer drug development at the Institute for Drug Development, Cancer Therapy & Research Centre in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Hao joined the Tom Baker Cancer Centre / University of Calgary in December, 2001 where she is actively involved in both clinical and translational research focusing on thoracic as well as head and neck malignancies. She has served as a longstanding member on the Health Research Ethics Board of Alberta – Cancer Committee. Dr. Hao is Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine where she is involved in teaching at all levels. Dr. Hao is a Medical Oncologist, at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Associate Professor at the Cummings School of Medicine, University of Calgary, in Calgary, Alberta. There she is actively involved in both clinical and translational research in both thoracic as well as head and neck malignancies. She has a background in Phase I/new drug development, serves on the Health Research Ethics Board of Alberta – Cancer Committee, and sits on the executive of the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists.
