Dr. Teresa Petrella is a Medical Oncologist at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Petrella has a BSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Western Ontario and completed her MD from Queen’s University. Her Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology training was at McMaster University. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Melanoma and Breast cancer at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre along with a Masters in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. Dr. Petrella joined the staff at OCC in 2002 and became the Head of the Melanoma Site Group. She also Chairs the Provincial Guidelines Melanoma Disease Site Group, Program in Evidence Based Care. She is currently the Chair of the National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC) Melanoma Clinical Trials Group.
Dr. Gary Groot is a general surgical oncologist and Director of Surgical Oncology at the University of Saskatchewan. His practice is focused primarily on head and neck oncology with secondary involvement in melanoma, sarcoma and breast oncology. Dr. Groot is a strong advocate for multidisciplinary cancer care; it was under his leadership that Saskatchewan began multidisciplinary Head and Neck rounds close to 30 years ago and more recently establish a provincial Thyroid multidisciplinary round. He is involved with similar rounds in breast, skin and sarcoma care. Dr. Groot is the chair of the Canadian Partnership of Canada’s equity advisory committee and has served CPAC in a number of capacities over the last several years in addition to serving the American Head and Neck society on their Quality Committee. With a cross appointment in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology Dr. Groot has a large health services research program as well. .
