OncologyEducation’s Best of ASCO® Conference is a program licensed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology and will be held virtually on June 19th, 2021. Chaired by Professor Tim Price and Dr Richard de Boer, the focus of this event will be to provide medical oncologists and other healthcare practitioners with a summary of the most significant treatment advances presented at the ASCO® 2021 Annual (digital) Meeting, with presentations focused on several key disease sites. The Best of ASCO® Australia faculty will draw from some of Australia’s most influential oncologists.
• To summarize the most significant treatment advances presented at ASCO® 2021
• To review the current standard of care for key malignancies
• To discuss the current controversies in the management of specific cancers
Professor Tim Price MBBS, DHlthSc (Med), FRACP Prof Price’s research interest has been gastrointestinal cancer since 1998 when he was accepted for a Gastrointestinal Clinical Research Fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Subsequent roles have included Head of Cancer Research TQEH, Director of the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group board since 2004, COSA board member since 2019 and current Medical Lead for Cancer Program Central Adelaide Health Network. He has authored or co-authored over 200 publications in peer reviewed journals.
Dr Richard de Boer MBBS, FRACP Dr. Richard de Boer completed his general medical training and then medical oncology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. In 1997 he undertook a 3-year breast and lung cancer clinical research Fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, working with Professor Ian Smith.
He returned to Melbourne in 2000 and since then has been a consultant medical oncologist working in both public and private practice. He is currently a consultant medical oncologist in breast cancer units at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
His primary breast cancer interests focus on endocrine therapy and mechanisms of resistance, and treatment-induced bone loss and bone metastases. He is actively involved in clinical research, and is the principal investigator in both local and international studies. He is a member of the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group, and until recently was the head of the Breast Trials Group of Cancer Trials Australia. He has authored articles appearing in journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, The Breast and British Journal of Cancer.
