The Best of Lung Cancer Summit is a digital meeting and will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021. Chaired by Dr. Barbara Melosky and Dr. Paul Wheatley-Price, this year’s program will take the most significant lung cancer data from the 2021 ASCO, ESMO and World Lung conferences, and put it into context for oncology professionals. Speakers will review the latest research with in-depth analysis and discussion to improve the current standard of lung cancer care.

After taking part in this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the current and future availability and application of immunotherapy in the treatment of lung cancer.
  • Understand the latest strategies for managing lung cancer with radiation therapy and/or surgery.
  • Discuss approaches for maximizing outcomes on the standard of care in the management of lung cancer using biomarker testing, targeted therapies and other new targets.

Dr. Barbara Melosky

Dr. Barbara Melosky

Conference Chair

Dr. Melosky is a Clinical Professor of medicine at the University of British Columbia and a medical oncologist in Vancouver at the British Columbia Cancer Agency. Dr. Melosky specializes in the field of thoracic malignancy. She is head of the Lung Tumor Group at BC Cancer.

She sits on the Executive Lung Site Committee for Canadian Clinical Trials Group CTTG.Dr. Melosky chaired the Canadian Lung Cancer Conference for the last 21 years, which is attended by over 500 participants. She organizes and chairs the Lung Cancer Journal Club. She is chair and created the British Columbia Lung Cancer Biobank.

She is published extensively and is considered a national and international expert in thoracic malignancies.

Dr. Paul Wheatley-Price

Conference Chair

Dr. Paul Wheatley-Price is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and a medical oncologist at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, specializing in the treatment of thoracic malignancies and carcinoma of unknown primary.

Dr. Wheatley-Price is a Past President and ongoing Board member for Lung Cancer Canada. Dr. Wheatley-Price attended medical school in the UK, at the University of St. Andrews (1991-1994) and the University of Manchester (1994 – 1997).

He received specialist medical oncology training in Wellington, New Zealand, in London at the Royal Free Hospital, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals and St. George’s Hospital, and as a Fellow in Lung Cancer Research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto.

He has been in Ottawa since 2009.
