Dr. Scott Berry is a medical oncologist at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Berry is an active participant in GI cancer clinical research. He is the Chair of the GI Disease Site Group at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and is the Co-Chair of the GI Disease Site Group of the Cancer Care Ontario Program in Evidence Based Care.
Dr. Berry loves teaching, and has won several teaching awards and the Education Award in the Division of Medical Oncology. Dr. Berry has also received the Excellence in Postgraduate Medical Education Award from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Berry is the past Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee for Medical Oncology. He currently serves as the Director of Competence by Design Planning and Implementation in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Berry is the Interim Departmental Division Director for Medical Oncology at the University of Toronto.
His other academic interest is the bioethical issues surrounding the care of people with cancer, in particular the ethical issues surrounding funding new and expensive cancer medications. Dr. Berry has a Master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Toronto. He is the former ethics advisor to the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review and has served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology Ethics Committee.
