The Best of Oncology West 2026 Virtual Conference will provide a comprehensive overview of the most impactful and practice-changing clinical developments in oncology presented throughout 2025. Focused on delivering the latest evidence across a broad spectrum of tumour sites, this highly anticipated event will feature expert-led discussions and critical analysis of key data and emerging trends.
Chaired by two of Western Canada’s leading medical oncologists, Dr. Sharlene Gill and Dr. Daniel Heng, the conference will convene a distinguished faculty of oncology experts from across the region. Together, they will examine how recent advancements are influencing current standards of care and shaping the future of cancer management. Designed for oncology professionals, this virtual program offers an essential opportunity to stay current with the evolving oncology landscape and apply the latest knowledge to clinical practice.

Event Co-Chairs
Dr. Sharlene Gill
MD, MPH, MBA, FACP, FRCP(C), FASCO
Dr. Gill is a Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and a medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies at BC Cancer – Vancouver. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy and an MD from the University of British Columbia in 1996 followed by residencies in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Gill subsequently completed a fellowship in Gl Oncology at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) and a Master’s of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 2017, she completed an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina. She is actively engaged in education and research, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters to her credit. Dr. Gill currently serves as the Chair of the Canadian Clinical Trials Group (CCTG) GI Disease Site Committee, and is President-Elect for the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists.
Dr. Daniel Heng
MD, MPH, FRCPC
Dr. Daniel Heng is the Head of Medical Oncology attheArthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary, Canada and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He is the Chair of the International mRCC Consortium Database (www.IMDConline.com) which is the largest database of patients with metastatic kidney cancer treated with contemporary therapies in the world. The IMDC criteria (aka Heng Criteria) are used for kidney cancer prognostication. He has a keen interest in outcomes, prognostic factors and clinical trials research in metastatic renal cell carcinoma and other genitourinary malignancies. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross by the Governor General of Canada for his work in Kidney Cancer.
